Donthinklove digital prints 2012-2018
Donthinklove.com provided a platform where recorded exchanges were presented and where participants could download and share their images online. Over a 3000 audience members between 2012-2018 directly took part in these exchanges in Newcastle upon Tyne, Middlesbrough, Durham, Berlin and London.
Quotes, fortune cookie text, song lyrics and film references were starting points for actions where audience participation was integral to content and production as balaclava clad others including herself were recorded performing simple acts.
The element of play was mirrored with the use of love heart decorated balaclavas that participants wore, inviting people to take part anonymously. Each performer could interpret and act on instructions on an individual level, the results of which were recorded and became part of a collective, cyclic creative process.
The line between artist, individual and collective was blurred through Davies’ use of objects, which she gifted to participants as ‘actions’ evolved. Objects included hand made items such as love heart decorated balaclavas and fabric dolls and mass produced items such as postcards and numbered key fobs.
Davies’ obsession with pattern, rhythm and transformation is evident in her multi-screen video and animation works dating back to 2001. This immersion in cutting up, repetition, reassembling and process is a continuous underlying theme in her work.
